in the event that you permit
In the event that you permit
Me to have you as my muse; I shall sing.
For you are like a hundred muted whispers,
My silent cry no one will hear,
It comforts me that you listen,
But you do not know you listen.
For you are like a thousand neon lights,
You are a sea of blinking colors,
They blind my eyes so I can see more clearly.
For you bring to me a million words,
Surrounding me like a flock of wild birds;
I am a lonely tree they rest on,
To seek refuge on my welcoming hands.
For you show to me a billion stars,
The treasures of the cobalt night sky,
They streak the heavens to excite
The dull throb of the sinews of my body.
If you refuse, it is of no consequence.
I shall persist until my soul is extinguished.
And on that day, nothing shall be left,
None in my scattered papers,
None in the ebony ink of my pen,
None in my forgetful memory.
